After decades of being reclusive, the miracle of meeting a fabulous pair of gentlemen helped to make new music possible in Los Angeles this summer. And, with the genius of long-time friend Jeffrey Abelson who, in the 80’s directed Irene Cara in her “Fame” video, here is the NOW version of “It Only Hurts When I Cry”…
If you like the song, you can download it here:

For fun, here’s the original 1965 performance of the same song from “Beach Blanket Bingo:

Ms.Loren,
I want to take a moment to thank you for this new video release. I am 46 and have long admired your talent. You make me proud to be a baby boomer-as you look fantastic! I’ve never heard a song updated with such artistry and new fresh appeal. It sounds as if it was written last week! Congratulations on a job well done.
Best Regards,
Jeff Benson
Your pipes are as good as ever. Please do some more retakes, thank you again for starting a comeback.
Always a fan,
Galen
I’m so happy to have something more than a few minutes of beach movies to see you in. I love them all but for years I have wanted more. You have a much bigger presence on the web than you had just a few months ago. There are lots of Shindig clips and Dr Pepper commercials, and more seem to be showing up every day.
Your tempo of It Only Hurts When I Cry 2009 is much more fitting to the words and I love it. Donna, you have a lot of appeal because of the total package. It’s your voice, your movements, your expressions while you are singing, and time hasn’t done you any wrong in the looks department either.
I have to admit a bit of frustration with the video though. I find myself wanting to be drawn into the song and your passionate delivery, but the camera cuts and view angles come way too frequent and too fast. Some of the cuts come mid-sentence, where I want to be melodically captured by your words, but the frame shifts don’t allow it. I’d like to see more of you with slow fades and transitions between lines and verses. The video needs to be as slow and memorizing as the song and your delivery.
I certainly hope that we all will have an opportunity to by a ticket and see you live one day soon.
Donna,
I saw “Beach Blanket Bingo ” a few days ago on TV and when I saw you, I fell in love all over again! It brought back so many great memories. I must have watched that movie a dozen times at the theater and every time your song came on, I was totally entranced. Now that I’m 60 , the movie seems a lot sillier than back then, but I still felt the old warm feeling when you sing. BTW, you didn’t have to eat that hot dog, did you? I thought you were the prettiest girl I had ever seen. That is, until I found the 2009 version at your website. Wow!! You have become an awesomely beautiful woman! It’s great to see you coming back to your public and I wish you all the success in the world! Oh, if you need an old roadie, let me know.
Donna,
I have been in love with you since 1964. I have passed this emotion on to both my wife and 22 year old daughter. My daughter who is a musical theater actress/singer has taken on my passion for the girl singers and girl groups of the 60’s. She has said many times how much she loves your songs and performances from the movies and Shindig. As beautiful as you were in the sixties, I was amazed at how stunningly beautiful you are today.
Your remake of “It only Hurts” is hauntingly beautiful. Would love to see you perform sometime.
A true fan,
Kurt.
Wow, what a treat to see you are blogging. I’m currently watching Beach Blanket Bingo on Turner and just for grins started goggling some of the stars.
You and that crazy dancer Candy (?) were always the high points of those films for me, and it’s great to see you are still are still around and bright as ever.
