March Babies

I know a slew of them! My own Birthday is Monday, 3/7. Here’s a photo of my sweet sixteen at the Luau in Beverly Hills, 1963.

Morey, my adopted father was March 1st. Born in 1916 he would be 95 now. Grandpa Si, my father-in-law from my first marriage is today, March 4. We had an interesting symbiosis, both being children who worked and had domineering mothers. My junior high school friend, Janis is March 13. I am one week older than her. Liliana, my niece is turning 9 this month as well as my husband’s granddaughter Aurora. My friend Jerry Naylor will be 72 this Sunday. Tricia and my great friend Roz, her mom, are also celebrating their b-days this month. I know a few others who were a part of my life. Margareta on the 15th. She’s in Sweden. Ry Cooder on the same day. Even Mo at the end of the month and Charlene, too. I’m sure there are more whom I just don’t know- wait- I remember now, my new friend Sheryl on the 19th!

The Ides of March (15) symbolize the Lion of winter retreating and the Lamb of spring coming forth. With the climate of change traversing our planet please take time to watch the new leaves on a Tree. Wink at the new faces on flowers unfolding. Give thanks to your loved ones and try and recognize your angels.

Below is a photo of a birthday dress that survived these many decades. I wore it on my 15th b-day. Somehow, I haven’t found a photo of me wearing it yet. Morey usually photographed me  while I was working, so I’ll just keep looking. Maybe I wore it on another occasion. I’m really glad he made an exception with the ‘Luau” photo- thanks dad!!!

Out Of My Closet ~ Special for V-Day

Polished a rusty charm bracelet presented to me by Dr Pepper in my first year as their spokesperson.

Underneath layers of old photos appeared a small patch I should have attached to a pair of jeans (never owned a pair until I was in my twenties).

The patch declared “I’m a Pepper”.

In addition, I’ve added something from Clock Dial, Dr Pepper’s company magazine from March-April 1966.

For those who question the 10-2-4, here’s the official explanation along with the cover of the magazine.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!

I Am So Proud of My Children

My daughter, Anna, has just released an album of her compositions. On the album with her is my son, Joey. Katie, my youngest, designed Anna’s artwork and is fully involved in her career. Knowing that my children love one another, support each other and work together is phenomenal.  What a fantastic outcome for my kids to choose to do this together out of love and support for each one’s greatest good. This is an evolution that leaves me with my heart bursting with joy. And, the music is great…Wow!

A Teacher First

Kung Hei Fat Choi- Year of the Rabbit: most compatible – Pig and Dog. Our President is an Ox – slow and steady, relentlessly plodding along on the path to Peace in the Middle East. Patience and perseverance is paying off, in my humble opinion,  allowing us and the entire world to experience the struggle toward peace so that we all feel their pain and make the commitment with them. The Dalai Lama declared the solution for mankind and all life on Earth is EQUANIMITY. TRUTH. Today, in the wake of peaceful demonstrations in Cairo, Alexandria, Suez and Luxor, millions of Egyptian citizens living in the cradle of civilization are buzzing with the dawning of the Age of Aquarius. The open hearts of the population are enduring after 12 days of a display of bravery rarely seen. Dedication to Grace and Dignity glows in Liberation Square. Obama may be scrutinized for not bullying  his proposed opponents but alas his wisdom tells us to move away from old tactics and oppressive class ruling. Please stand by your principles, Barack. We’re at the tipping point. You know, the Hundredth Monkey. All of the hope you spoke about is staring at us from the threshold. I really see the Meek speaking up. Quietly living in integrity all you open-hearted, speak up. Now! Just think of our Mayan brothers predicting a new alignment December 21, 2012. The goal awaits us all: all living beings, even pohakus. Happy New Year!

True confession: I cry a lot — you know, at sad movies, at my kids’ school graduations, or watching Fox News. So I come here today not to attack our new House Speaker John Boehner, but rather to support him bearing tissues and tunes. Okay, maybe just the tunes — hey, those tissues cost money and we’re all cutting budgets, right? So John Boy, crank out these tunes on your best house speakers and pull yourself together, man. Jeff Goodell: “What grade would you give the Obama Administration?” Final entry No. 7

Bill Gates: “I don’t think I’d give them any different grade than they’d give themselves. They wanted to get additional R&D money and they wanted to get some type of price signal on carbon, and they haven’t succeeded in doing it yet, so I think they’d give themselves an incomplete. It may stay that way. Should they be trying harder? They have a lot of things going on.”

J.G. “Are you scared about the kind of world- and the kind of climate- your kids will inherit?”

B.G. “Climate change is a terrible problem and it absolutely needs to be solved. It deserves to be a huge priority. But when you think of kids, you think of more immediate things like, will terrorists blow up a nuclear bomb? When you start thinking about kids, I hope they fasten their safety belts. There’s a lot to worry about.”

My preference is to generate positive energy and create the world we want. Focus on opening your heart; I do!  Happy New Year

Part 6 What Have We Learned?

Bill Gates answers the question about energy politics in his trips to Washington: “The politics are hard.  Anybody who thinks that once upon a time you just called up George Washington and he solved a messy problem like this- it’s never happened that way.

  • The most important thing is to start working on the long lead-time stuff early. That’s why the funding of R&D feels urgent to me. If you said to me, ‘Hey, you can get R&D now in return for a carbon cap eight years from now, that would be a pretty good trade.’ The key thing about R&D is, it causes you to build energy plants when the ones you have wear out. That’s a 30 year decision, what you’re putting in that place. If people knew there will be a carbon tax during the life of that plant, that really starts to change the decision.”

“My Inner Voice”

President Sebastian Pinera of Chile tells Arianna Huffington that he listens to his inner voice for guidance. These exact words are  found in the lyrics of  my song Love It Away, the title track of the first album I’ve recorded in over 40 years. A concept of trusting your inner voice is certainly not a new one. All great thinkers of ancient times must have relied on their inner voice. Only in recent history has there been a massive movement to disconnect one’s intuition and be guided by political motivation. How refreshing for the successful leader of a country to admit and be honest about where his ideas originate. It is a well kept secret that we all have the ability to listen to the voice inside you and be guided on your path of life. In my humble opinion, it IS the truth!
