Donna in Liz Smith’s Column (3-17-10)

From Liz Smith’s column in the New York Post on March 17, 29010: “BLAST FROM the past: Donna Loren? Some of you must remember Miss Loren. She is a singer who appeared in five – count ’em five – beach party movies. (Annette Funicello in her matronly bikinis!) Donna also became the official “spokesteen” for Dr. Pepper. And she recorded an album. OK, we’re not talking Lesley Gore here, but Donna had her little moment. After a long hiatus – hubby, kids, a retail business in Hawaii – Donna has come back with a self-produced CD titled “Love It Away.” It includes songs such as “Live Nude Cabaret,” “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight” and “Shakin’ All Over.” Check out Ms. Loren’s video on YouTube – high camp in John Waters’s waters.”

Beverly Hills Courier (3-12-10)

Donna Loren was the ‘It Girl’ long before Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian hit the streets of Beverly Hills.
Back in the mid 1960s, she was seen as the “Dr. Pepper Girl” in TV commercials and print ads as a real life “Gidget” who was also seen singing in movies like Beach Blanket Bingo and Muscle Beach Party and in TV’s Shindig! where she sang pop tunes along the lines of The Beatles, Beach Boys, and Rolling Stones, circa 1964 and ’65.” Read more…

Donna will be making a first-ever appearance at The Hollywood Show in Burbank, CA on Valentine’s Weekend. This is the best known autograph show on the West Coast. Celebrities by the dozens charm their ways into the hearts of those who stop to say hello, have a picture signed, or a photo taken with their favorites. From the moment people walk in they are treated to a collectors dream. Memorabilia fills the lobby and spreads onto the show’s main floor. Posters featuring classics from yesteryear and yesterday line the walls, and there, tucked behind four sets of double doors, they sit. Celebrities as far as the eye can see.

Donna Loren’s “Love It Away” CD Released

"Love It Away" Album Cover

Donna Loren’s “Love It Away” CD now available!

“Love It Away is a tour de force album of Donna Loren’s revealing original compositions as well as classics like Bob Dylan’s I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight which serenades us with a virtuoso violin. She opens with a Randy Newman song, Last Night I Had a Dream, parodying her nightmares as a child. Her ‘see me for who I am’ philosophy is highlighted by the stunning cover photos in which she wears one of her own couture designs. She has opened her heart to us and shows her vulnerability as well as her strengths. Listen to her cover of Neil Young’s Old Man and her original tunes Only Love, OK and the title track Love It Away. The acoustic approach here reminds me of Joni Mitchell’s legendary Blue album or Carole King’s landmark Tapestry LP. Insightful and honest is Donna’s encore to the pop music world. She recently described herself to me as ‘a woman who vanished into a chrysalis and has now emerged liberated’. Donna, now we can forgive you for all the years you’ve been away. Promise this time, you’re back to stay! We need a voice like yours to give us comfort and reassurance that some artists, like fine wine, really do get better with time.”  –Hal Lifson, Entertainment Journalist
